Overview
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide derived from the naturally occurring tetrapeptide Tuftsin with an added Pro-Gly-Pro sequence. It is studied in research for its effects on neurotrophic factor expression, GABAergic signaling, and immune modulation pathways in preclinical models.
Research Use Only
This product is intended for laboratory research use only. It is not intended for human consumption, therapeutic, or diagnostic use. Handle in accordance with good laboratory practices.
What Is Selank?
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide derived from Tuftsin with a Pro-Gly-Pro stabilizing extension. It is studied in research for its effects on neurotrophic factor expression, GABAergic signaling, and immune modulation. Supplied as a lyophilized research peptide.
History
Selank was developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It was designed by combining the immunomodulatory tetrapeptide Tuftsin (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg) with a stabilizing Pro-Gly-Pro C-terminal extension to enhance metabolic stability. Published research from Russian academic institutions has characterized its neurotropic and immunomodulatory properties since the 1990s.
Research Findings
Preclinical studies demonstrate that Selank modulates BDNF and NGF expression in brain tissue models. Research has shown effects on GABAergic neurotransmission, serotonin metabolism, and enkephalin system signaling. Additional studies have examined its immunomodulatory activity, including effects on cytokine profiles and immune cell function in animal models.
